Q: Where does your keynote presentation fit into a meeting?

A: Three places —

  1. At the beginning of a meeting as a "theme-setter" to establish an up-beat tone and get the attendees thinking positively about what they can accomplish and learn during the balance of the meeting.
  2. At the end of the meeting, as an up-beat wrap-up, to send attendees off on a high note.
  3. As an interlude — as a break from more industry-specific, technical or necessarily dry sessions, and commonly, although not always, in conjunction with a meal.

Q: What kind of organizations hire you?

A: Four kinds — organizations that:

Want to motivate and entertain their people while providing them with an uplifting and inspiring message.
Want to energize their sales force
Want their people to take more initiative, approach problems differently than in the past, be more entrepreneurial, think like owners and move out of their rigid comfort zones to improve performance.
Are confronted with change and need to change the way their people do things to respond effectively to the change.

Q: What does skydiving have to do with the challenges facing our organization?

A: Everything & Nothing! We all face challenges daily. We all face fear regularly. Fear, left to run rampant within us, enormously limits personal and organizational performance. Fear can be debilitating and lead to inferior performance.

Skydiving brings with it many challenges and significant fear. Skydiving provides the audience with exciting & entertaining stories and wonderful & powerful metaphors for how they can effectively respond to the challenges and fears they are facing.

Q: We don't want a speaker to show up and deliver the same presentation to us he delivers to everyone. The presentation has to be specific to us. Do you customize your presentations?

A: Yes! It's called many things — customizing, tailoring, personalizing. The answer is yes. Clients often comment enthusiastically about the impact from my customizing. You'll notice comments to that effect in many of the letters received from clients following my engagements.

I developed my presentations to have maximum impact. Part of maximizing impact is making it clear to the audience that the presentation has been prepared especially for them. I've constructed my presentations with as many as ten different segments where audience-specific information is used. This information is gleaned from my Pre-Program Questionnaire and advance telephone interviews.

Q: Can you do an interactive workshop?

A: Yes! In addition to keynote presentations, I do half-day workshops that allow attendees to focus on personal performance improvement through exercises that help them to anonymously identifying the fears and challenges they are facing. They also determine the positive risks and constructive steps that will move them forward and the resulting rewards they'll enjoy.

Q: What types of audiences are you best with?

A: A broad range. My presentations are well received by all female audiences, all male audiences and mixed audiences. In terms of age, I get positive responses across the board —from 20's to 70's.

General audiences respond enthusiastically to my presentations, but so do many audiences that would not commonly respond a motivational presentation. I believe this is due to the reason-based approach I take to motivation as opposed to the more emotional approach taken by some motivators. Examples of these types of audiences include engineers, scientists and technical workers.

Audiences from a broad variety of functions including management, sales and administrative respond positively to my presentations.

Q: What size audiences do you speak to?

A: My audiences have ranged in size from 12 to 1,000. I would be most comfortable with even larger audiences.

Q: What are your audio-visual requirements?

A: Simply stated — LCD projector, VCR and a wireless lapel mic. Should more detail be helpful, just ask.

Q: How long are your programs?

A: My keynotes range from 30 to 60 minutes. A one hour time slot is ideal. If you want me to take questions following the presentation (which I'm always happy to do) allow additional time.

My workshops range from 2 hours to 3 hours.

Q: We know you've skydived to the North Pole and earned a World Record, but do you have any business experience?

A: Yes and substantial. My final position before becoming a full-time speaker was Chief Operating Officer of an international architectural firm. Additional business experience includes Vice President & Project Partner of a real estate development and investment firm and Vice President of Development & Management for a medical research organization.

I served in Washington, D.C. in a Presidential administration for three years ultimately becoming the first non-attorney in the history of the U.S. Department of Energy to serve as Special Assistant to the General Counsel. I started my career in commercial mortgage banking. I have a Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in finance & marketing and a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering.

All this background and experience allow me to readily understand, and in many cases identify with, the challenges my clients are facing.

Q: My audience likes to laugh while they're being motivated. Are your presentations funny?

A: Yes. There are many lighter moments in my presentations where audiences enjoy a good laugh. I believe humor is an important part of a effective presentation, particularly as a balance to the more intense and profound elements.

Q: I know you can arrive by parachute, but our meeting is inside ...

A: Clients in a variety of venues have me arrive by parachute. Sometimes they'll move the audience outside for my arrival then re-seat them for the presentation. Sometimes they have me land during an outdoor reception before my presentation or have me jump into an outdoor function earlier in the day, such as a golf event.

Q: We like the idea of having you arrive for your presentation by parachute. What do WE have to do?

A: Provide me with —

A safe landing area.
Written permission from the facility to land there, and
The individuals and organizations you would like included as additional insureds on the special policy of insurance that covers the jump.
Talking with me.

Other than possibly providing a few of your people to help secure the landing area, that's it. I handle the rest of the logistics and authorizations, including the required dealings with the Federal Aviation Administration.

A: By —

All these will give you a strong sense of my approach. My presentations are up-beat, inspiring and give the audience specific steps they can implement immediately to improve personal and professional performance. If that's what you're looking for, I'm the right choice.
